Natasha Kaiser
From being born in South Texas, moving through small rural towns no one has heard of, and later moving to the Shenandoah Valley, my experience with life has been rooted in diverse landscapes and communities. A deeply religious upbringing and a mother with a physical disability impressed on me at an early age the importance of resilience, strong will, and empathy. Those experiences influence the way I see the world and how I approach every story.
I am currently a senior in the photojournalism program at Rochester Institute of Technology and working as a freelance photojournalist for WXXI News.
My current project that I am in the process of developing is my capstone project, a story focused on individuals who have left, been excommunicated, or changed their religious standings from their former religious communities. This project stemmed from my own experience being shunned and later leaving the deeply religious community in which I was born and raised.
